Why? Because to convert tablespoon to fl oz, you should divide the tablespoon value by 2 or multiply by 0.5.

You don't even need a calculator. The kids of the second-third grades learn to divide two to four digits by one-digit numbers. If math isn't your thing, ask your kids!

Tablespoons and fluid ounces

The confusion reigns between units of the metric system, the US customary system, and the Imperial system.

What is a tablespoon, and the types of tablespoons used in different countries?

What is an ounce, and the difference between dry and fluid ounces? And what are the US and Imperial ounces?

Let's find out.

A tablespoon is a volume unit in the metric, Imperial, and US customary systems.

1 US tablespoon equals 3 teaspoons, 1/16 cup, ½ fluid ounces, 0.03 US liquid pint, 0.000014787 cubic meters, or 14.8 milliliters.

1 metric tablespoon is a bit bigger; it equals 15 ml.

1 Imperial tablespoon (aka British tablespoon) equals 3 imperial teaspoons, 0.06 Imperial cup, 0.625 imperial fluid ounces, 0.03 Imperial pint, or 18 milliliters.

Finally, the Australian tablespoon is the largest among the ones mentioned above. It equals ⅔ fl oz, 4 teaspoons, or 20 ml.

A fluid ounce is another unit of volume in the United States customary and Imperial systems. So this measurement unit is used to measure liquid ingredients.

US fluid ounce (aka regular ounce) equals 1/128 US gallon, 1/32 US quart, 1/16 US pint, ⅛ US cup, 2 US tablespoons, or 6 US teaspoons.

Imperial fluid ounce equals 0.00625 Imperial gallon, 1/40 Imperial quart, 1/20 Imperial pint, 1/10 Imperial cup, 1.6 Imperial tablespoons, or 4.8 Imperial teaspoons.

Fluid ounces differ from the dry ounces (aka weight ounces) used to measure dry ingredients.

So, the handy tool below is created for volume conversions. Since a dry ounce is a weight unit, the question about how many ounces in a tablespoon of bread crumbs, brown sugar, or all purpose flour is answered in another post.
