Tablespoons and gallons

Tablespoons and gallons are both units of fluid volume.

A gallon is abbreviated as gal; a tablespoon has an abbreviation tbsp, T, tbs, and occasionally tblspn.

A tablespoon is primarily used for serving and a measure of volume. So, is there any difference in a tablespoon value by country?

1 US tablespoon equals 3 teaspoons, 4 fluid drams, 1/16 cup, ½ fluid ounces, 0.03 US liquid pint, 0.000014787 cubic meters, or 14.8 milliliters.

1 Imperial tablespoon equals 3 imperial teaspoons, 0.06 Imperial cups, 0.625 imperial fluid ounces, 0.03 Imperial pint, or 18 milliliters.

As for nutrition labeling in the United States and the United Kingdom, a tablespoon equals 15 ml.

One metric tablespoon equals 15 ml. The Canadian tablespoon is also 15 ml in size, having been swapped out for the metric system back in 1971 when Canada went fully metric.

Australian tablespoon is different: one Australian tablespoon equals ⅔ fl oz, four teaspoons, two dessert spoons, or 20 ml.

A gallon is a volume unit in the US customary system. But you shouldn't confuse a US liquid gallon with a dry gallon to measure dry ingredients and an Imperial gallon (aka British gallon).

So what is a gallon value?

1 US liquid gallon equals 2 US quarts, 8 US pints, 128 US fl oz, 16 US cups, 256 US tablespoons, 768 US teaspoons, or 0.00378541 cubic meters.

In English units, one Imperial gallon equals 4 Imperial quarts, 8 Imperial pints, 160 Imperial fl oz, 16 Imperial cups, 256 Imperial tablespoons, 768 Imperial teaspoons, or 0.00454609 cubic meters.
